…when it comes to successful child authors. And there is a long list – from works of poetry to a New York Times best-selling book by Alec Greven (written at age nine) on How To Talk To Girls, young authors have surprised their families and friends by their early creativity and imagination.
The examples are many and amazing – like “How The World Began” written by Dorothy Straight when she was four years old (published by Pantheon Books two years later).
Daisy Ashford was nine when she published her first book, The Young Visitors…and Christopher Paolini was 18 years old when his book Eragon was published – and it has sold over 33 million copies.
There are any number of other examples of young authors being surprisingly successful – but all had an early ability to not only use their imaginations, but also to express them on paper.
Reading automatically exercises the imagination and increases one’s basic understanding of how to use words to “paint mental pictures.” It should be encouraged both at school and at home.
